about

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who purchased this! We appreciate it. As this fund-raising project has seemed to run its course, we're now making the album free for anyone who would like to download it. Thanks again.

(Here is the original post)
We are the Itch. We are from Joplin MO. On May 14th, 2011 we played a show in Joplin at the Keystone with a new line up which included 2 members from Thee Fine Lines, Jason and Justin. This was their second show with us. Steve and Mel Wamble from Brutally Frank (also from Joplin) attended the show. What we did not know was that Steve had brought an audio recorder to the show in his pocket and that he had recorded the entire set.

After the show, Steve told us what he had done. He gave us a copy of the show on a CD on May 21st, 2011. When we received it, we did not really have a lot of plans to do anything with it. The sound quality was really good but we were so sloppy we felt it was not worth releasing as an album.

On May 22nd, 2011, the EF 5 tornado hit Joplin. Its 200 mph winds carved a path 3/4 of a mile wide through 7 miles of our home town. As of now, there are 142 people dead and thousands of buildings destroyed. Almost everyone that was at that show was a friend. Some of our friends are now heroes. Some of our friends are no longer with us. A lot of our friends are without homes.

We quickly put our heads together and decided to release this album on the internet to raise money for our town. We are doing this as quickly as possible to raise as much money as possible. ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS ALBUM WILL GO TO BENEFIT THE JOPLIN UNITED WAY!

Like I said earlier, this show is raw. We left most of the sound between the songs as they represent the voices of our scene in our town. Hopefully we will be getting some video footage up on the internet of the show as well.

We do not have a lot of experience releasing things on the internet. If you have any knowledge in that department, we would appreciate it. Please only send well informed directions as we do not have the resources to experiment with this.

Special thanks goes out to Steve and Mel Wamble for making this possible, Dozer for booking us, the Keystone staff who served us that night and all the people who came out to the show and who are now digging their family, friends and fellow citizens out of the rubble in Joplin. We are your biggest fans!
